Quetzal and Aloe Blacc NCLR Alma Awards Performance of "Wake Me Up" 9/27/13 "Artwork provided by Ernesto Yerena (www.hechoconganas.com)"

Ernesto Yerena Montejano was born in the small border town of El Centro, California, just 15 minutes north of Mexicali. As a child, Ernesto lived and attended school in the United States and spent much of his free time hanging out with his family south of the border in Mexicali.

Extended version, produced and directed by Stefan Forbes, InterPositive Media LLC. This video depicts the personal and political journey of artist Ernesto Yerena, set to the hard-hitting, inspiring music of Rage Against The Machine and One Day As A Lion.

During the political battle over Arizona's immigration laws last year, Ernesto Yerena led a visual charge for illegal immigrants' rights. He made a name for himself with striking and simple protest posters that marchers hoisted at many rallies.

High noon on a Sunday in Echo Park, Zack de la Rocha (RATM/One Day as a Lion) stopped by to mash it up with Ernesto Yerena (Obey Giant/Studio Number One). The outcome was a collaboration sicker than a kissing booth at Mono-Con.

Ernesto Yerena is an artist and activist that has recently moved to Phoenix from Los Angeles. In his new studio in downtown Phoenix, Yerena talks about his inspiration for cultural and conscious art.
